Cellula Magna

About Cellula Magna

Life at every scale.

Inside you, right now, trillions of cells are at work. Proteins walk along tracks, tiny motors spin out energy, and your DNA is read and copied without a break. Cellula Magna takes you into that great world inside you.

We make short, clear biology videos about cells, DNA, proteins, microbes, the human body and evolution. Every video is built in real 3D: molecules shaped from Protein Data Bank structures, cells modelled from microscopy, and credited real images.

What you will find

  • Four-minute explainers: how things work, where they came from, and how small they really are.
  • Shorts: one surprising fact in under a minute.
  • Myths tested, living things compared, and big questions science is still working on.

How we work

Every fact comes from published research, and we say clearly when something is still unknown. Each story on this site lists its sources, and the numbers that vary between them.

A small badge on every 3D shot says what you are looking at. Magnified model means a simplified illustration, much bigger than life. Built from real data means the shape comes from measured coordinates, such as a Protein Data Bank structure. Real micrographs keep their own colours and their credit.

Colours follow textbook conventions and never change for style: atoms in the standard colours (carbon grey, oxygen red, nitrogen blue, phosphorus orange), mitochondria orange, the nucleus purple. Real cells are mostly clear; our colours help you tell the parts apart.

Credits & licences

Downloaded 3D models are used under Creative Commons Attribution licences, recoloured to the conventions above. Each one is credited on the Explore page and in the description of every video that uses it. Protein structures come from the RCSB Protein Data Bank; small molecules from PubChem.

Our 3D models are simplified illustrations and may not be exact. For learning and wonder, not medical advice.
